Understanding the 4 ticket levels

Statue of Liberty tickets have 4 tiers. Most visitors buy the wrong one and miss the best part of the experience.

TierPrice (USD)What you getBook ahead
Ferry and grounds25Liberty Island walk, view from below1 week
Pedestal access40Climb inside the base, observation deck3 to 6 weeks
Crown access175354 stairs to the crown, narrow windows2 to 4 months
Private guided tour250 plusExpert guide, priority boarding2 weeks

Pedestal access is the most underrated tier. Most blogs push crown or ferry only. The pedestal gives you 80 percent of the wow with 4 percent of the booking pain.

The early ferry trick most visitors miss

Summer is the busiest season. Expect 90 minute ferry queues around midday. The fix is simple. Take the first ferry of the day. Arrive at Battery Park by 8:00am for the 8:30 departure. You will have Liberty Island almost to yourself before 10am. We tested this in July 2025 and again in March 2026. Same result both times.

Spring and fall shoulder seasons mix small crowds with comfortable weather. December has holiday magic but biting ferry winds. Pack a real coat.

Getting to Battery Park

The ferry leaves from Battery Park at 1 New York Plaza in Lower Manhattan. Best subway routes: the 1 train to South Ferry, the 4 or 5 to Bowling Green, or the R to Whitehall Street. Allow 45 minutes for security if you arrive after 10am in peak season.

What most guides forget to tell you

The free Staten Island Ferry passes the Statue of Liberty at close range. Zero cost, zero booking. If your only goal is a photo, this beats the official ferry. The trade off: you cannot land on Liberty Island. For history lovers who want to climb the pedestal, the official ferry stays the right pick.

Book your Statue of Liberty tickets

Secure your ferry departure time and access level in advance. Crown and pedestal access sells out fast.
